Approximately 50 cars have been marked with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Cars, building surfaces and postal boxes were vandalized, in some cases with swastikas, they reported in a official communication.
Police report they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a resident discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued substance.
The fluid had been drawn in the form of a banned symbol, they stated.
Police then found numerous other marked vehicles and house walls in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under laws banning the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Officials state preliminary tests show the liquid was probably human bodily fluid.
"There is still no indication as to where it came from; authorities are not yet cognizant of any physical harm in relation with the occurrence," they stated.
Municipal representatives stated they were working "to unravel the case" and have appealed to the community for information.
An important official stated the attack made him stunned and needed to be resolved rapidly.
"This event hits the very heart of Hanau and revives the trauma of the extremist terrorist attack in 2020," he stated on a platform, mentioning the death of nine victims by a gunman aiming at residents of immigrant origin in February 2020.
