The Fifth Toy Story Film Trailer Pits Woody and Buzz Against a Digital Device
It has been 30 years since the first Toy Story movie debuted, establishing Pixar as a major film company and introducing audiences to iconic characters like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.
Coming in 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed this week, providing a glimpse into the storyline but leaving fans curious how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Spooks the Toys
In the teaser shows the young girl — who inherited the toy collection when he left for college — getting a latest plaything, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. Bonnie gets her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.
Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the toys seem to view it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it probably is.
Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
An element the teaser avoids is what Woody is returned with his friends in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a new adventure with the shepherdess (the actress), traveling with a fair and helping giveaway items locate loving owners.
Surely, the filmmakers will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him show up in Bonnie's room without warning is somewhat puzzling, though. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have come back with him. And where is Duke Caboom (the star)?
Connections from the Previous Film
Fortunately, some aspects are continuing from the prior film. The last thing the cowboy did before setting off for his new life was pass his symbol of authority to Jessie (the voice actor), entrusting her in charge of the toy domain. In the teaser shows the badge pinned to her shirt.
Hopefully she is remains the key figure among the toys.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
